Holidays have been a huge temptation to push the edges and tell myself I’ll make up for it later. At this year’s Thanksgiving dinner I really had to remind myself over and over about how good my body was going to feel because I chose not to eat that piece of processed-sugar-laden piece of cherry pie. I’m in the middle of cleansing my body, so sugary foods and alcohol were not going to help me clear out toxins. I also know that too much sugar in my diet compromises my immune system. Elite Fitness Plus recommends committing your goals to writing and using the S.M.A.R.T. method of goal setting.

S - A goal should be specific and not general. I will work with my personal trainer 3 times per week and I will do cardio 5 days a week. By doing this I am going to drop 20 pounds and lower my percentage of body fat to 20%. The weight loss will be complete by April 1st" This is a much more tangible goal than saying, "I am going to lose weight."
M - A goal should be measurable or quantifiable. Again looking at the statements in the previous paragraph, the first goal is measurable. 20 pounds is a specific measure of weight. "Vague goals produce vague results. Create a goal in which your progress can be specifically measured and your results can be numerically quantified," states Michelle Waldman, owner of [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] and personal trainer in Westlake Village and Thousand Oaks.
A - The goal must be attainable. Jessica Rosen, a personal trainer in Simi Valley and Camarillo says, "We often see a client who has gained 30-40 pounds since college and wants it gone in a month. That is not a realistic or attainable goal and so the client is setting themselves up to fail. An attainable and sustainable number for weight loss is usually somewhere between 1-3 pounds per week depending on the client's body type and composition,".
R - The goal must me relevant or realistic. As listed in the above paragraph, the goal can't conflict with reality or known science. It is important to first define realistic goals and expectations. The key to getting to your desired result is to focus on your "why." What is prompting you to set this goal? What is at the core of your motivation? This is the most powerful question to answer. Why is this goal relevant to you? Are you motivated to stop a family history of heart disease, lead a good example for your kids, did your doctor tell you that you are headed toward diabetes if you don't correct your diet and exercise regimen? Whatever the root of your motivation may be... focus on it every day.
T - And finally the goal must be time bound. It should have a start and finish date. This allows us to work towards a goal line. "I will drop the 20 pounds by April 1" is a much better goal than "I will lose 20 pounds,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]." The second statement has no end date and gives the goal setter a huge “out”,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
As we approach the last quarter of 2012, let’s look at what we managed to learn about those New Year’s resolutions that 40-45% of us will write . Here are some interesting statistics about those resolutions:
• Over half of all goals will be health or weight related.
• 25% of resolutions are broken before the first week.
• 29% of resolutions are broken before the second week is out,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
• 36% of resolutions are broken by the end of the first month.
• 50% is how much the death rate from diabetes will rise in the next decade,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
• 54% of resolutions are dust by the end of six months

• 90% of disease is directly or indirectly related to lifestyle choices,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
• 90% of resolutions don't see a one year anniversary.
Wow, those numbers will keep you up at night! It might lead you to ask, "Why bother?" The answer is simple. Lifestyle related disease is on the rise at an alarming rate and yet there is an easy fix. The evidence is in for fitness. Regular exercise has been associated with more health benefits than anything else known to man. Studies show that it reduces the risk of some cancers, increases longevity, helps achieve and maintain weight loss,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], enhances mood, lowers blood pressure, and even improves arthritis. In short,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], exercise keeps you healthy and makes you look and feel better and, when coupled with an appropriate diet, is just what the doctor ordered.

• Don't sit on machines between sets.
• Never work with more than one machine at a time.

• Cooperation is key – if someone wants to work-in, move aside.
• When you see someone struggling with weight, offer a spot. If you ask to work-in on someone else's set, reset the machine to the previous settings when you’ve finished. When one begins to suffer the many symptoms and signs of illness, however, suddenly the importance of having a clear understanding of the difference between health and a chronic illness or condition is desired. The quest to understand if the illness is to be long-lasting is an emotional journey perhaps as much as diagnosing the illness itself.
The World Health Organization (WHO), which was began in 1948,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], defines health as "being a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity." Wikipedia, the online encyclopedia,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], defines illness as "a state of poor health." They state "Illness is sometimes considered a synonym for disease."
In conclusion, like many definitions in our society, depending on who you ask you will get a different answer. Chronic illness has its burdens and frustrations, but joy is a choice. I feel I can say this because I have lived with rheumatoid arthritis for nearly two decades and I have learned that no one can define or decide what it is that brings me joy.

The question may even be asked, "Can one be a healthy, chronically ill person?"

A lack of information, however, does not cancel out the need for a person who is suffering to have his or her pain experience validated by both loved ones and medical professionals. The task of defining what a chronic illness is does not seem like it would be a difficult one, even though there are thousands of types of chronic illness. Our society has firmly held the opinion that the commonly advertised medications will cure our illness or at least make all symptoms soon disappear. And we are told this is true: that we just need to follow the advice of the pharmaceutical companies and soon we will be as good as we used to be!
Despite the fact that America may be well known for their well-being, nearly 1 in 2 American live with a kind of chronic pain, condition,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], or illness. This can include anything from chronic migraines to disabling back pain. This is according to the report "Chronic Care in America: A 21st Century Challenge" completed by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.

This could include any physical state that takes away one's measure of health-or as the void of illness such as the autoimmune illness chronic fatigue syndrome, rheumatoid arthritis, symptoms of end stage COPD,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], or even cancer.
If you were to walk up to a person on the street and ask him what he believed the difference was between illness and health, chances are that you would likely receive a fast reply about how health is when the body works correctly and illness is when it does not.
Is it unrealistic to believe that everyone can obtain some level of health? The definition of health and illness will always be vague and determined not scientifically, but rather sociologically by those determined to use the definition to their advantage.
This is an issue that many people with illness are sensitive to, however. There are people who live with severe chronic illnesses who live a very healthy lifestyle, doing their best to stay as well as they can despite their condition. And then other people who are genetically blessed with good health, can tear their body up with stress or substance abuse, for example, and still stay relatively healthy. If these people do in fact end up getting an illness, then was it predetermined, or was it caused by their actions?

As you’ve had more experience meditating you can follow your breath. As thoughts creep in, acknowledge them but release them and go back to concentrating your breathing again. This is what is called “Breath Meditation” and it truly is one of the most powerful ways to start your day. You present yourself to God and the Universe in a still, quiet,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], receptive mode and it is a beautiful way to start your day.
Next I recommend doing a little yoga or stretching so that you can prepare your body for your meditation. After your stretching or yoga, you can begin your morning meditation. Find a quiet,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], peaceful place to meditate. Work towards meditating about 30 minutes or more every day but you can start off with just a few minutes; perhaps five or ten minutes to begin with. You need to sit quietly,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], comfortably and perhaps at first use a guided meditation. You may also want to use a mantra or prayer word to help guide you. As you breathe in you say “I am”; breathe out and say “peaceful”. You say this in your head each time as you breathe in and out calmly in a relaxing manner. It really is a beautiful way to start your day on a positive note.
To finish off your beautiful beginning to the day I suggest you take a moment to connect yourself with the beautiful world around you. Go to your yard or someplace outside and soak in a little bit of the nature around you. If you live in a large, busy city you can even create something inside your own house that allows you to breathe in and soak in the beauty of nature. A few ideas are to use something as easy as a small bubbling fountain with a plant or two, placed next to a window that allows the morning sun to come in at you as you relax. It can be anything that allows you to connect yourself to the beauty of nature.
Next you will want to wake up and drink a glass of water immediately. You’ve been dehydrated all night long and need to replenish your system with either cool or warm water,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], whichever is your preference. Be sure to drink water and not other substances such as a morning cup of coffee or orange juice, etc. as the water is what your body truly needs.
Then it’s time to go to your breakfast table. Take the time to sit and enjoy something “live”,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], unprocessed. Perhaps a piece of fruit, an apple,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], an orange or something healthy that will start your day off in a positive, healthy way. Finally,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], perhaps as you sit down in your car to begin your journey into the day, take one last moment to pause and just thank the world for the beautiful day before you. What can really be helpful is to change your morning experience into something positive, healthy and into something that can help you throughout the day. Here are some steps that I recommend you implement every morning so that you can have a beautiful morning with a beautiful experience each and every day. Of course you may not be able to do them right away or you may choose to make some changes and work towards having a beautiful, wonderful morning every day. It takes time and effort to implement these changes and many of us are very, very busy. It’s up to you how you approach it, but either way you will benefit from beginning your day in a more positive way by implementing these techniques.

Sleep is actually more complicated than most people think and sometimes it needs our attention. Good sleep habits include; avoiding certain foods and drinks close to bed time, and not engaging in mentally or physically stressful activities.
Being physically comfortable and relaxed in bed will help to make sleep come more easily. Having both a medium weighted duvet and a thinner one will suit all seasons. During the summer, you can use the thinner set, and as it gets cooler you can use the heavier one or combine the two. Dietary Sources of Folic Acid

Next to Iron, Folic Acid deficiency is the second-most common nutrient deficiency in the United States and Canada. As our bodies do not manufacture Folic Acid, it must come from the foods we eat, or from supplementation. Before the FDA made it mandatory that foods be enriched with Folic Acid in 1996 (CDC, 2010),[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Folate was the leading deficiency.
One of the areas where there is a high turnover of cells is the cervix. As a note, the intestines are also a site of rapid cell turnover; a deficiency in Folate can lead to inflammatory bowel conditions—commonly found in those with Cervical Dysplasia.
Do not take a Folic Acid supplement without first discussing it with someone knowledgeable in BOTH natural supplements and medical conditions.
While having abnormal cervical cells is not harmful, the medical community feels these cells are precursors for a woman developing cervical cancer—their presence increases the risk of developing this cancer. According to Dr. Swierzewski (2011), nearly 70% of these cases regress without becoming an issue,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], without developing into cancer.
The connection between Folic Acid (Folate) deficiency and Neural Tubal Defects (NTDs) in newborns was first realized in the early 1980s; hence the recommendation that all pregnant women take a supplement of Folic Acid during pregnancy to prevent spina bifida. As the risk of developing spina bifida occurs before most women know they are pregnant (usually within the first 3 weeks after conception), the Food and Drug Administration, in 1996, began to require Folic Acid be added to “enriched” foods, such as breads, pastas, and cereals in an attempt to decrease the incidences of spina bifida and other Neural Tubal Defects (Wikipedia,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], 2012).
As the deficiency worsens, other symptoms appear: irritability, forgetfulness, depression, confusion, apathy, hostility, paranoia; sore or red tongue; elevated homocysteine levels; diarrhea; and weight loss.
Folic Acid, also called Folate, is a B-vitamin, B-9 to be exact, but it is not called a B-vitamin; you will find it as Folic Acid for Folate.
One of the properties of Folic Acid is that it protects the cells against changes to the DNA and RNA that could cause cancer. Areas of the body that replicate cells often are at a higher risk for the development of cancer; when a cell replicates, it duplicates the genetic code of one cell then makes two. Cancer occurs when this duplication process does not go right. Cells are supposed to make an exact copy of itself; cancer occurs when the cells do not make an exact duplicate.

Even with the enrichment to processed foods, the deficiency rate of Folate is still high. Dietary sources of naturally-occurring Folate are often not a food choice by many families. Add to that, alcohol and tobacco both deplete Folate that is in the body, as is the case with many of the commonly-used medical drugs.

Although the Centers for Disease Control feel the Human Papillomavirus is the leading cause of cervical cancer (and hence created the HPV Vaccine), incidences of Cervical Dysplasia has not decreased in those who have Folate deficiency even with the vaccine (Cohen, 2011); this was confirmed in a 2009 study published in Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers and Prevention (Flatley, 2009).
Any level of deficiency can cause Neural Tubal Defects in newborns and increase the risk of developing cancer.

The general treatment is to have another pap smear in 6 months and to watch and wait. If the cells become cervical cancer in situ (an early cancer), then action is taken. It may take up to 10 years for this to occur.
